August Apollo Tech Journalist UK Rankings

Here are the latest Apollo UK journalist league tables which measure sheer mass of output each month. Bylines are counted along with a preference for article numbers rather than word count. Strangely, my numbers this month are incorrect (I published 87 stories, Apollo quotes 80), so for those who have doubted the value of these tables: here’s some more fuel for the fire. As for red hot trends, Pocket Lint is clearly churning out the content currently – well done guys!

Something of a shake-up in the latest tables. I understand Apollo is now counting joint bylines which makes a huge difference for sites and publications aggregating content.
As always, remember these table indicate who are the most prolific UK technology journalists, nothing more.

For as sure as we have UK journalist league tables for December, January, February, March and April here comes May. The table signals who have been the 20 most prolific technology journalists in the UK. Congratulations this time go to Sylvie Barak making her debut in a very credible 8th place. I’ve skipped up one place to 5th.

Just as journalist league tables came out for December, January, February and March so here we have the most prolific tech journalists in April. The lovely Elliot, an unstoppable machine, keeps her place at #1, I inch up one spot to 6th. Good to see my colleague Hugo sneaking in his first appearance. The table in full:

After some delay Apollo has finally gotten around to releasing its March 2009 UK technology journalist league tables. There has been a real shake up since February with Pocket Lint making a very strong showing and finally Tech Radar getting some credit. Yours truly is once again in at number 7 – go… erm, consistency!

Yes, I was top of Apollo’s December Apollo Tech Journalist UK rankings and had a fair old ponder about what it meant. I didn’t come up with anything revelatory. The rankings are here again however so let’s ogle…
In short no, I didn’t make it to the pinnacle for a second month in a row instead coming in 7th. Nevermind – I’m sure I’ll live. Here are January’s top 20 grand fromages and congratulations to Carrie-Ann Skinner whatever it means:
#1 Technology UK Journalist In December 2008

It’s hard to know how to take both praise and criticism. As a writer and journalist I tend to run into both on a fairly frequent basis (probably more the latter given readers are generally moved more when angered than entertained) so I think I’ll be taking this with a pinch of salt…
‘Top UK Technology Journalist December 2008’
That’s me according to the Apollo Journalist Profiler, a service “used by PR Agencies and in-house PR departments to identify the key journalists in their sector” – ummm, very nice. Cheers fellas!
Of course on the other hand how this ranking system is compiled is another question entirely. If it’s based on profile you’d have to say Jemima Kiss and Jack Schofield of the Guardian and Observer should probably come out top and while not included the likes of Rory Cellan-Jones at the BBC or Stephen Fry would dwarf me.
Still I’ll take the pat on the back thank you very much, brace myself for the inevitable cosmic karma kick in the pants and not take any of it too seriously – whatever it means…
PS – companies are never going to get it are they? There is NO space between ‘Trusted’ and ‘Reviews’ – never has been, never will!
